On the face of it, through our naive eyes, we had a simple building project to extend over our existing double garage to provide a new master bedroom and en-suite and extra single room.Below this we would take part of the garage floor space and extend the kitchen and do some small modifications to extend the front porch area. Many of the houses on our small estate had already done similar extensions and the plans we had commissioned, drawn and approved all looked simple enough.

How wrong we were and equally how fortunate we were in choosing AP Berrystone (APB) to manage the build.
We chose APB from our initial shortlist of 5 local builders because we liked the attention to detail in his quote and also his assured manner.
The website site he also pointed us towards gave us numerous examples of similar projects he had already successfully delivered.
We felt we were in safe hands.

The project got under way at a fast pace but soon we were informed of a major problem. It transpired that a good proportion of the outer garage wall was not sitting on a foundation.The building inspectors were called out to view the issue and they were shocked - this house after all was part of a new housing estate built only 18 years ago so how could a problem of this magnitude not been spotted.
The issue for us though was that there was seemingly no way forward but worse still was that there was no way back either as the garage was deemed unsafe.
APB though, through his vast experience, had other ideas and was able to propose a solution that met with the building inspectors approval.
Under his guidance a rapid re-drawing of the plans with new structural calculations took place and effectively a crisis was averted.

I would like to say that everything after that went according to plan - but it didn't. A plan after all is just a two-dimensional entity.
Under the scrutiny of an experienced builder that was tasked with bringing it to life a number of impracticalities with the internal layout were brought to light. As each problem arose though choices and swift solutions were provided and in many instances the final result was better than what we originally envisaged.

Much of what APB achieved though was only possible because he employs first rate craftsmen that take pride in a job being done well.
They arrive promptly each morning and when it is time to leave they ensure the area is left a tidy as possible.
APB insists on this tidiness - an important factor especially as far as the neighbours are concerned.

Throughout the whole building process APB strives wherever possible to keep the disruption down to a minimum and with regular meetings and constant updates on progress he helps you to manage the stress levels and stay in control of the project.
